Position Summary:


The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for implementing the development of new products and manufacturing techniques in response to needs, specifications, and objectives established by the corporate and development organization. Design all mechanical aspects of new product projects including housings, plastic mold design, die casting mold design, metal stamping dies, materials analysis, pneumatics, and hydraulics, diaphragms, with high geometric tolerance and dimension requirements.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate broad based proficiency and specialized expertise in several technical and professional areas including housings, plastic mold design, die casting mold design, metal stamping dies, materials analysis, pneumatics, and hydraulics, diaphragms, with high tolerance and dimension requirements. Is able to apply these skills to successful completion of tasks or assignments with little or no supervision. 
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of the properties, application and limitations of various materials such as steel, brass, aluminum, elastomers, silicones, thermoset and thermoform plastics.
  • Working knowledge of the engineering process and how all aspects of product development and the product life cycle relate.
  • Manages and maintains product requirements and specifications throughout the Product development process.
  • Work with other engineers, drafters, model makers and technicians to attain project objectives.
  • Proficient in the product configuration process by creating drawings, prints, bills of materials, or other documentation. Leads the establishment of the product baseline and maintenance of this baseline through the generation and approval of ECR’s and other related documentation.
  • Expresses design ideas, processes and specifications in diagrammatic form as documents, drawings, prints or Assemblies. Fully understands the representations and conventions used in these drawings.
  • Draft, detail and edit data sheets, operations manuals and user manuals.
  • Understand urgency and drive projects to completion in order to accelerate product time-to-market.
  • Proficiency with technical tools such as test equipment, computers and related software. Able to effectively use software productivity tools (word processors, spreadsheets, databases, etc.) as well as technical software tools (2-D and 3-D CAD/CAM, FEA, etc.)
  • Proficient knowledge of machining, tooling, plastic injection mold designs, LIM designs, Thermal dynamics, stamping and casting die designs, metallurgy, geometric tolerancing and dimensioning, math modeling for validation of design theories, designing for manufacturability so low skilled labor can consistently build the product for low cost with high quality.
  • Partition designs based on best value solutions including mechanical, analog, signal conversion, digital and firmware.
  • Devise and lead the implementation of experiments to demonstrate the precision, accuracy and stability of designs.
  • Devise and lead the implementation of test, validation, verification and assembly plans.
  • Identify and remediate issues related to the tolerance, construction or assembly of the product.
  • Apply technical knowledge and experience in defining needs and requirements for test equipment, machinery and specialized fixtures or facilities for manufacturing, lab or model shop use.
  • Apply technical knowledge and experience in quickly resolving design-related manufacturing and assembly issues.

Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s):

  • Devise and lead the implementation of experiments to demonstrate the precision, accuracy and stability of designs.
  • Manage and maintain product requirements and specifications throughout the Product development process.
  • Express design ideas, processes and specifications in diagrammatic form as documents, drawings, prints or Assemblies. 
  • Identify and remediate issues related to the tolerance, construction or assembly of the product.
  • Partition designs based on best value solutions including mechanical, analog, signal conversion, digital and firmware.


Requirements

Required Skills / Experience / Competencies:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering or relevant field of engineering. 
  • Working knowledge of technology, principles, and general practice associated with engineering. 
  • Must be capable of successfully executing assigned tasks with little supervision.
  • Physical/Mental Essential Functions:
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents and manuals. 
  • Ability to interact / communicate effectively with customers, employees, and external personnel. 
  • Ability to identify, communicate, and help prevent potential problems. 
  • Must be efficient with strong attention to detail. 
  • Ability to meet frequent project deadlines. 
  • Ability to follow a set of procedures or set sequences. 
  • Ability to use keyboard, sporadic 10 key. 
  • Ability to use a mouse (or alternative input device). 
  • Knowledge of software development process & the principles of software engineering
  • Understanding of user interface design and implementation.
  • Knowledge of programming languages and related software tools (i.e. compilers, debuggers, test tools, prototyping environments, etc.).

Work Conditions - Remote:

  • Work in an efficient and healthy work space - good light, comfortable temperature, ergonomic adjustable chair, computer keyboard and mouse to suit your needs. Work within agreed upon work hours. Maintain proper posture, take breaks, and be sure to do stretches during your shift. Set boundaries with family members with regard to interruptions and noise etc. Be mindful to “disengage” from work and have work/life balance.
  • Requires a stable internet connection with appropriate download/upload speeds and bandwidth
