JOB SUMMARY:

As a member of the Education Department, the Seasonal Program Teacher will teach, coordinate and assist in the refinement of existing educational programming for the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden under the direction and approval of the education management team. Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden educational programming includes Elementary TEKS aligned STEM programs designed to cultivate a connection to nature and inspire environmental stewardship through garden-based experiences. The Program Teacher will successfully coordinate and conduct classes with students and contribute to the education team’s efforts.  The Program Teacher reports to the Education Program Manager. 


This is a Seasonal position. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: 

· Facilitate and teach Arboretum field trips educational programs, outreach programs, after school programs and camps, and support group bus check-in as assigned

· Prepare, organize, and maintain classroom and teaching spaces, ensuring supplies are fully stocked and ready before programs, and that materials and spaces are cleaned and properly reset afterward.

· Collaborate with Arboretum staff and volunteers to implement high quality programming

· Communicate with school contacts regarding programming, including email of pre and post program documents to schools and collecting and recording attendance and assessment collected data in a timely manner

· Support with learning galleries facilitation as needed

· Assist with administrative duties such as booking reservations, material management, organization and curriculum development as needed under the direction of education management

· Contribute positively to team effort

Requirements

  

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

· Bachelor’s degree required. Prefer education degree and/or a strong background in natural sciences

· Two years’ teaching experience in formal classroom and/or informal science institution; STEM related fields preferred

· Computer software proficiency; Good verbal and written communication skills

· Strong understanding of elementary science concepts, including Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and knowledge of State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) preferred

· Physical ability to coordinate, set up and conduct classes on Dallas Arboretum property, inside or outside, or at offsite locations; lift up to 30 lbs. with frequent standing and walking

· Work flexible hours, including some nights, weekends and school holidays as needed 

· Driver’s license and car to drive to offsite locations

· Ability to pass all pre-employment requirements including a background check and drug test
