Description
This position will be responsible for procuring treatment authorizations through the insurance plans, confirming insurance eligibility and benefits for treatment, counseling patients on the out-of-pocket expenses and helping find external resources for payment assistance
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Verification of patient benefits and eligibility for specific services and infusion medications
- Verify referrals are on file for payers requiring one
- Procurement of Authorizations for Infusion services
- Preparation of cost estimates based on treatments plans established
- Work closely with leadership in Revenue Cycle and Operations to closely monitor the Infusion
- services payer requirements and anticipate any issues that may arise
- Follow up with patients regarding billing questions they may have regarding the services received
- Work closely with MD and Clinical staff to pivot treatment plans as required by a patient’s insurance
- Set up Prepayment plans for services and Payment plans for outstanding balances
- Work with patients to find possible external resources to assist them with expenses incurred for their
- treatment plan, i.e.. Grants, co-pay assistance.
- Serve as liaison for patient inquiries related to treatment plan, benefits and out of pocket costs
Requirements
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Infusion billing experience required
- Excellent verbal and written customer service skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to read and interpret EOB’s
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Knowledge of all confidentiality requirements regarding patients and strict maintenance of proper
- confidentiality on all such information
- Other duties as assigned based on business need
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365
- Medical Terminology
Education /Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience as a patient financial counselor, intake coordinator specializing in
- infusion, chemotherapy and/or specialty pharmacy setting - Preferred
- Experience in Athena EMR – Preferred but not required
